From “Doing” to “Making” – Why should Everyone Start a Business?

The Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK organised

the  S.I. Leaders Sharing on 17 October 2019 (Thursday).  Ms. Zhang Jie-ping*, a veteran media personnel, delivered an inspirting sharing on “From ‘Doing’ to ‘Making’ – Why should Everyone Start a Business?”.

She believes that our lives are all journeys of creating new businesses. Establishing new business does not mean being free, earning a lot of money or being a boss, but instead, understanding and realizing your goals without hesitations. She therefore chose to study media in Hong Kong, established is unaffair, recorded the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong in 2014, operating Initium Media and the “decentralized” media company Matters. These are all milestones in her career and life. After her sharing she encouraged the audience that “entrepreneurs” have to be brave to make difficult decisions, bear risks and help others in self-realization.

Zhang Jie-ping is a media entrepreneur, a reporter and a wanderer travelling around Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. She is the founder of Matters, a decentralised writing platform, and visiting scholar of the International Visitor Leadership Programme of the U.S. Department of State. Zhang possesses 14-year experience in the media industry, and she is one of the founders of The Initium and “iSun Affairs Magazine”. She was awarded Journalist of the Year by The Society of Publishers in Asia in 2010.
